Events & Races

We participate in a wide range of events and races throughout the year, including parkruns, 10ks, half-marathons, cross country races, relays and plenty more.

Here are a few highlights!

External Races

Surrey Cross Country (XC)

Every year we take part in the Surrey Cross Country league! Going into the 2026 season, our women are in division 2 and our men are in division 3. The series is split across four races from October to February and is a great opportunity for the club to come together in a team event. The top 5 women and top 10 men score towards the Pioneers' total.

You can find out more about the league here.

They're a wonderful series of races with plenty of opportunities for socialising in the pub afterwards, capped off with an end-of-season meal and celebration in February!

Green Belt Relay

A Clapham Pioneers staple, the Green Belt Relay is a 22-stage, 2-day relay around the circumference of the M25. It's a truly unique event — the scenery is stunning and you orienteer yourself across an 8–13 mile leg. All runners complete one leg per day.

3x1 Mile Relay

One of the most exciting events in our calendar! Teams of three each run a mile as fast as they can in a relay format. It's fast, it's loud and the atmosphere is electric. A brilliant opportunity to test your speed and cheer on your teammates.

River Relay

The River Relay is a 5-stage race where teams of 5 complete a marathon distance together. It's an event that we've historically done well at as a club, and is a great opportunity to test your speed across a shorter distance.

Club Events

Club Championship

We hold our very own club championship! Our wonderful Race Secretary decides which races qualify for club championship points during the calendar year, and at the end of the year we announce the Top 3 Women and Top 3 Men!

Points can be scored for participating, volunteering and getting a personal best at a distance! We announce the Top 3 at our much-anticipated Christmas party!

Volunteering

Volunteering and being part of the local community is at the heart of what Clapham Pioneers is about.

We volunteer at two parkruns each year (the Clapham Pioneers Parkrun Takeover) where members run the show! It's a great way to showcase what we're about as a club — and perhaps recruit a new PiONEER or two!

Summer Solstice Run

The longest day of the year is always a highlight. We take to the streets in our iconic orange vests and run around central London and back to Clapham. To celebrate, we then socialise on the Common together in the evening.

Annual European Half Marathon

A highlight for many members is our annual half marathon away trip! It's a great opportunity to get out of London with fellow members and explore a city together. It always promises a blend of great food, drinks, cultural experience and of course running and cheering each other on during the half marathon!

Last October, around 50 Clapham Pioneers ran the half marathon in Porto and then celebrated with drinks and great company at a beach-side bar for the rest of the day.

Previous trips include Porto (2025), Belfast (2024), Amsterdam (2023) and Munich (2022).

Summer Pop-ups

Throughout the summer months, the club hosts weekly pop-up sessions organised by individuals or groups — they can be any sort of session!

A club favourite is our annual rounders game, but we've also had yoga, pilates, treasure hunts, body combat and many more. Anyone can come forward with an idea — the club will support you in putting it on!

Christmas Party

Finally, we have our Christmas party! One of the most hotly anticipated events in the club's calendar, the Christmas Party is an opportunity for us to get together as a club, run a festive 5k, announce the Club Championship winners, and those who've won a Clapham Pioneers Annual Award (chosen by the committee)!
